The Saturday Club Invitational Inter
Club Sports Carnival is held every year
during the summer season.
In
the early 1970's members of various
clubs in Calcutta who stayed back during
the Summer Vacations did not quite know
what to do with themselves with their
friends having left town. The idea
emerged to have an Inter-Club Sports
Carnival and since then, there has been
no looking back!. In the early years,
some of the sports disciplines were held
in different clubs but because of
logistical problems, it was decided to
have all the activities at one location
- The Saturday Club.

What is unique about this Carnival is that all the
sports disciplines are played simultaneously.
Traditionally on the opening night there is a
quiz, held in the past with Quiz Masters such as
Siddharth Basu, Derek O'Brien, Tom Alter, Roshan
Abbas, Ruby Bhatia, Kishore Bhimani and Joy
Bhattacharya. The Quiz is followed by a grand
opening ceremony and a dance.
In the mid-week there is a teenager night and also
an evening of not so serious activity, which is
called the Non Carnival Evening. Typically,
it would have races such as three-legged, lemon
and spoon, and a beer drinking contest etc., for
the elders. Teenagers are very much part of this
Carnival as there are several sports event items
for them. The grand finale is held after the
swimming finals. The prize distribution is
followed by a dinner and dance.
